Defensive Tackle, Class of 2026

Virginia Tech and James Franklin picked up a big commitment when Hopewell defensive tackle T-Ron Richardson chose the Hokies on Tuesday.

The former Oklahoma commit is regarded as one of the top in-state defensive linemen for the 2026 class.

The Hokies were a finalist for Richardson in the summer, but he eventually committed to the Sooners over Tech. He also took official visits to Penn State and Syracuse. Once James Franklin was hired by Virginia Tech, he took another visit to Blacksburg over the weekend. He decommitted from Oklahoma on Dec. 1 and announced his pledge to the Hokies shortly after.

Richardson’s rankings by the recruiting services are as follows:

  • Rivals: Three-star, No. 42 DL, No. 11 player in Va.
  • ESPN: Three-star, No. 39 DL, No. 13 player in Va.
  • 247: Three-star, No. 105 DL, No. 20 player in Va.

Richardson’s rankings don’t quite match his list of reported offers, which includes Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and others. TSL will likely rank him a bit higher than the recruiting services when our half-star rankings are released in February.
