The Hokies got some pass-rushing help when Texas State defensive end transfer Ben Bell committed on Thursday night. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
View tweetThe 6-foot-2, 250-pound Bell, who had offers from Ole Miss, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Baylor and Kansas, joins Virginia Tech after spending the last three years with Texas State, where he had 105 tackles and 15.5 sacks.
He only played in four games in 2024 before sitting out the rest of the year to preserve his redshirt to transfer. In 2023, Bell had 10 sacks to earn second-team All-Sun Belt honors. He had a 93.0 pass-rushing grade on Pro Football Focus, with a 90.9 overall grade.
Before Texas State, the Cedar Park, Texas, native spent two years at Louisiana Tech, where he had 3.5 sacks in limited playing time.
He is the second edge player the Hokies have taken this cycle as they try to replace the production of the departing Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Cole Nelson. Tech got a commitment from Eastern Michigan's James Djonkam earlier this month.
